Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing Therapy

What is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR is a powerful, evidence-based, and structured approach to psychotherapy designed to help people heal from distressing memories, anxieties, and traumatic experiences. Many people who choose to do EMDR therapy report real lasting relief from anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns.

How does EMDR work?

One of the reasons this type of therapy is so popular is that it does not rely solely on verbally processing the distressing material like traditional talk therapies do. Though talk therapy is helpful for many, some people find that they’ve discussed their trauma over and over again are still struggling to find relief. This therapy utilizes bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, movement, sound, etc) and a process known as memory reconsolidation to relieve distress and promote change and growth.

Since I take an integrative approach to therapy, I often integrate EMDR with other therapeutic tools to meet each client’s unique needs. This is especially helpful when supporting clients with complex trauma, dissociation, and other mental health needs. EMDR can be paired well with somatic therapy, parts work, and (where appropriate) psychedelic therapies such as Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy.

How do I get started?

I offer telehealth and in-person EMDR therapy to adults across New York, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. For those located near New Haven County, in-person appointments are available at my office.
